Stanton High Competing in Peru
LM- How was the travel to Peru?
SH- LONG! A flight transfer and layover was a big mistake! lesson learned lol
LM- What place did you end up getting?
SH- 2nd place!
LM- To took 2nd place overall were you surprised?
SH- surprised? yea, not really. i had a feeling i was going to do well, but its impossible to know. I had no clue what we were stepping into!
LM- How was the competition (other riders)?
SH- great! it ended up being all my friends and they ALL are experienced riders. the only issues we had were with the stock Yamaha Superjets, they barely floated after ever round!
LM- How was the food?
SH- bomb! had the best cirveche of my life! so many Peruvian dishes, I don’t think there was anything not to love!

Stanton High Competing Point Look Back.

Stanton High Podium 2nd Place.

Stanton High Big Barrel Roll.
LM- What were the conditions like (waves)?
SH- beautiful! but then we rode late in the day and got the rough side of it. still very big and powerful even by my standards. saw some waves over 8ft, very fun
LM- Is there wild monkeys in Peru?
SH- so many! we partied with them, they were running around the hotel half naked, they are crazy!
wait REAL monkeys? …no, maybe in the jungle or something lol
LM- If asked to go back would you? And why?
SH- would I.. hmmm… YESSSS!! OF COURSE! Peru is an amazing place, I made some amazing friends, and had an amazing time with friends I already had. no.brainer!
LM- What was something you forgot to take on this trip that you were like Shi#?
SH- hmm I came prepared! used everything I had and no problems running out. packing skills! thanks boy scouts lol
LM- How was the ski you ended up riding? Did it work out ok for you?
SH- It was used and abused, totally stock, with more issues than a jersey girl in front of mtv’s cameras. lol stock 08′s don’t turn at ALL, that made it super difficult to ride like I normally do, but everyone said I looked the most comfortable on it. did not feel like it! I ended up being forced to ride barefoot, just to fit my feet in the straps with the other straps that were installed. on stock turf, it was not comfy!
LM-Who would you like to thank for making this trip possible?
SH- the only person that deserves mention is Anibal Aliaga. he really is the man behind the entire Peruvian Freeride and Jetski racing scene in Peru. I am honored to consider him my friend. thank you Anibal! Xan Sampaio gets mention too! thanks bro!
LM- Anything you would like to add?
SH- this trip really showed me how dreams can be achieved, I never thought I would be traveling to paradise to ride. I just do this stuff for fun and now I have become a big deal in the sport I just can’t explain how that makes me feel. walking the beach in Peru literally brought tears to my eyes because I DID IT. I made something of myself by doing something I love. it is just so beyond my expectations for myself, it makes me so proud I wish my dad could see.
