A lot has been going on with rider Pete Zernik in the last year. He and girlfriend Vanessa had a beautiful baby boy Dylan Z. Zernik. Now that Dylan is quickly growing up fast Pete is getting back on the track training at Camp Far West this weekend the salt springs res next week for rd 1-2 DJSA then off to Parker the following weekend for IJSBA rd 1-2. The biggie I’m really looking forward to is the much anticipated Liquid Militia Team weekend. So I’m pretty stacked solid for the next 2 months with events and traveling. Looking forward to great year and lot’s of new opportunities.

Rider Pete Zernik wanted us to make him so new race numbers for his ski, trailer, and truck.

Weeding all of Pete's race numbers for 2012.

The Events:
We finished as much as we could but in the end the cracked exhaust manifold shut us down and I found myself floating in between the 2nd and 3rd turn waiting for a tow in.

The Get:
I think preparing mentally was the greatest challenge. There’s a series of them actually, pit crew needs, gear, gas, boat. Get the truck, get the trailer, get on the road….Getting everything prepared and ready after a 600 mile journey down to Havasu after working all night. Yeah as Shawn says ‘The Ride After The Ride’. I get it!

The Track:
That Mark Hahn race track was amazingly flat and fast. Our team ‘Mateo and I’ set the fastest lap on a stand up @ 11.1min for 10 miles… (I’m pretty sure it was my lap).

The Energy:
Good energy lots of people and good competition.

LM Let’s check out some houghts running into the final days of preparation from Pete. When the water wakes up as it often does across the lake what’s key for you?
PZ ‘If it’s rough heading down that long back stretch, to stay on top of the Chop and just keep the throttle pinned, but the boat steady’. He says.

LM What will your greatest challenge be?
PZ Getting in and out of the Pits is always as important as racing. You can become good on the track but a lot can come undone in the pits.

LM What have you been doing to train for the Hahn?
PZ I’ve been riding every chance I get for months now. Sleeping and eating right too.

LM What do you expect to deliver?
PZ A KICK ASS VICTORY WITH A SWEET PARTY AFTER!

I am Mateo Juarez, Liquid Militia Team Rider.

Competing at the Mark Hahn Hot Products 300 Memorial PWC Race this coming Saturday. I have teamed up with fellow Liquid Militia Team Rider Pete Zernik, sharing our Race boat # 89, in the Stand Up Open

Class. We’re piloting a Hydrospace GP. Should be a perfect boat for Havasu waters.

LM Heading into the Hahn what are your thoughts on race strategy?
MJ I’m feeling very confident that between Pete and myself we should have the fastest ski competing in our class and our experience racing will make us hard to beat.

LM What will your greatest challenge be?
MJ Fuel management! Most competitors will be running a slower ski that will get better gas mileage and result in fewer pit stops. Testing has shown that we should be able to make the same amount of laps as the slower ski’s as long as we manage the throttle modulation during the race.

LM Tell us about your Pit Crew:
MJ Our crew will be a mixture of people from Havasu and Vegas that are frieds of mine that understand racing.

LM How have you been training?
MJ Run, run, run. I going into this race the same way I would go into a closed course race with a slightly different training routine. I am focusing on endurance more than my max heart rate and conditioning my lower back and legs with lighter weights and longer reps.

LM What do you expect to deliver?
MJ I am setting very high goals for my racing this season starting with the Mark Hahn event and I’m not looking to just win but to dominate. We will be aggressive but will also let the race come to us. So in other words I am coming to win.

The American Power Boat Association (APBA) is the sanctioning body for the first round of USA racing held at the Bluewater Resort and Casino. The event opened the first round of the APBA Triple Crown of Watercross featuring three national events. The Triple Crown consists of the Parker APBA Bluewater West Coast Nationals, the Myrtle Beach APBA Sun Fun APBA Surf National Championships and the season ending APBA Watercross Nationals.
